Leather Chemicals

Dyna Glycols manufactures leather auxiliaries for the three process blocks a tannery actually runs: beam house (preserve, soak, lime, delime, degrease), wet-end (syntans, fatliquors, dye fixers) and finishing (binders, lacquers, wax emulsions).

What leather chemicals are

Dyna Glycols manufactures leather auxiliaries for the three process blocks a tannery actually runs: beam house (preserve, soak, lime, delime, degrease), wet-end (syntans, fatliquors, dye fixers) and finishing (binders, lacquers, wax emulsions). Grades are released against pH, solids, ionic character and the application tests on each TDS, under current ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems — not the withdrawn ISO 9001:2000 citation that appeared on older catalogue pages.

End-use tannery packs and concentrated intermediates for formulators are both supplied. Concentrated products ship with suggested let-down recipes so a blender can make a saleable leather chemical; they are not a substitute for running the named grade in the customer drums first. Exports follow the same identity tests used at evaluation.

How Dyna Glycols manufactures leather chemicals

Liquid surfactants, powders, resin binders and wax emulsions are produced on the ethoxylation, polymerisation and blending capability used for industrial non-ionics, then finished for tannery floats. APEO-free wetters and solvent-free degreasers sit alongside historical NP-9.5 equivalents so a tannery can keep or leave alkyl phenol chemistry on purpose.

Each named grade (preserve, soak, syntan, fatliquor, fixer, binder) has its own product page with floats, stability and shelf life. This family page is the map; the child pages are the specification.

Typical grades in this range

Open a process-stage page for the catalogue starting points. Typical named families are listed below.

  • Beam house: preservative, compact soak, amphoteric wetter, lime assistant, ammonium-free deliming, crypto-anionic and APEO-free degreasers
  • Wet-end syntans: liquid and powder retanning syntans for fullness, buffing and dye-level
  • Fatliquors: sulphated and combining oils for softness, area yield and light fastness
  • Dye fixers: methylol-amide and non-formaldehyde cationic after-treatments
  • Finishing: acrylic binders, lacquers and wax emulsions for grain, corrected grain and splits

Where leather chemicals are used

Bovine shoe upper, garment, lining, upholstery and selected sheep and goat articles are the usual outlets. Beam-house mistakes show later as drawn grain, grease stains or high effluent nitrogen; wet-end mistakes as empty bellies or poor dye; finishing mistakes as poor adhesion or brittle grain. Specify the hide, the tannage and the stage, not only a warehouse nickname.

Formulators buying concentrates should state the let-down, the target solids and whether the end-use tannery bans APEO, solvent, ammonium or formaldehyde. Dyna Glycols will then sample the concentrated stream or the ready tannery pack, not both unless asked.

How to specify leather chemicals

Name the stage, the raw material (bovine, calf, goat, sheep, fur), tannage (chrome, vegetable, combination) and any ban on APEO, solvent, ammonium or formaldehyde. Share float temperature, pH and whether the stock is pelt, pickle, wet-blue, E.I. or crust.

If replacing a competitor grade, send the TDS identity tests (solids, pH, ionic type) rather than only a trade name. Pair beam-house, wet-end and finish samples when the tannery is changing hide source, not one chemical at a time.

Quality, documents and supply

Lots are released against the tests on each child TDS. SDS, TDS and COA follow company verification. Laboratory or tannery samples should be run on the actual hide type before a bulk process change.

Store liquids above pour point and powders dry. Follow each product shelf life. Warm and mix set surfactants until uniform before charging the drum.

Practical notes on leather chemicals

ISO certificates on this website are the current management-system copies (9001, 14001, 45001, 27001) plus Halal, Kosher and 5S where published. Do not cite ISO 9001:2000 on purchase specifications; that edition is withdrawn.

APEO-free beam-house wetters are not drop-in copies of NP-9.5. Run a paired drum trial. Ammonium-free deliming is not weight-for-weight ammonium sulphate; float and pre-wash change.

Cationic dye fixers can block later anionic finish coats. Check finish adhesion on grain articles after fixer. Non-formaldehyde fixers are the usual path where residual formaldehyde is audited.

Concentrated grades for formulators need a written let-down. A tannery ordering a concentrate by mistake will see a different dose, pH and foam than the ready pack.

Related notes: beam house chemicals, wet-end syntans, fatliquors, dye fixers, finishing binders, lacquers and wax emulsion. Request a sample with hide, stage and any restricted substances so the Kandla team can lock a grade.

Export packing and labelling follow the transport class on the SDS. Regular industrial shipments can be scheduled once the trial lot is approved and the TDS is frozen.

Ordering and evaluating leather chemicals

Dyna Glycols supports leather chemicals with laboratory samples, current SDS, TDS and COA from the Kandla SEZ manufacturing network. Tell us the intended application, the substrate, the required moles or molecular weight, and any limits on colour, odour, cloud point, hydroxyl value, pH or residual feedstock. A matching catalogue grade of leather chemicals in the Leather Chemicals family can then be confirmed, or a custom batch can be planned on the ethoxylation, esterification or related plant.

When you evaluate leather chemicals, send the competitor grade if one exists, the bath or emulsion conditions, and the tests your receiving laboratory will run. Pack options for leather chemicals typically include drums, IBCs and bulk where the viscosity and melting point of the selected grade allow safe handling from the Leather Chemicals manufacturing line.

A first order of leather chemicals is easier when the purchase specification lists identity tests, not only a local trade name. Hydroxyl value, saponification value, acid value, cloud point, pH, water, colour and appearance are the numbers the Kandla QA laboratory can lock. If your QC uses a different solvent or a different cloud-point electrolyte for leather chemicals, write that method on the order so the COA speaks the same language.

Custom lots of leather chemicals are quoted after the hydrophobe or acid/alcohol pair, the target analytical window, the annual volume and the pack. Pilot batches are available when a catalogue point in the Leather Chemicals range is close but not exact. Once a trial lot is approved, that TDS should be frozen so the tenth delivery of leather chemicals matches the first approved drum.

Storage of leather chemicals should follow the SDS: keep containers closed, protect hygroscopic grades from moisture, and warm high-melt or high-mole grades until uniform before sampling. FIFO rotation protects colour and odour. If a drum of leather chemicals has frozen or separated in transit, homogenise it before charging a batch; do not decant only the liquid layer.

Use the sample form and name Leather Chemicals together with the intended process, substrate and any EO/PO, HLB, cloud-point or active-content window. Laboratory quantities ship after a short company check, with SDS and TDS when those boxes are ticked. A catalogue grade can be confirmed, or a custom batch planned on the Kandla plants.

Yes. SDS, TDS and COA for Leather Chemicals are issued to identified companies after a short verification — they are not open downloads. COA is lot-specific; if a commercial lot has not been allocated, typical TDS data is sent first and the COA follows the production batch. Request files from the documents form.
