Dyna Glycols supplies surfactants and process aids for emulsion polymerisation, pigment wetting, waterborne coatings, floor-polish and wax emulsions. The range covers non-ionic emulsifiers (APEO and APEO-free), anionic polymerisation surfactants, EO/PO defoamers, pigment dispersants, low-foam wetters and humectants that replace low-molecular-weight glycol ethers when VOC is limited.
What paint and coating chemicals are
Dyna Glycols supplies surfactants and process aids for emulsion polymerisation, pigment wetting, waterborne coatings, floor-polish and wax emulsions. The range covers non-ionic emulsifiers (APEO and APEO-free), anionic polymerisation surfactants, EO/PO defoamers, pigment dispersants, low-foam wetters and humectants that replace low-molecular-weight glycol ethers when VOC is limited.
A polymerisation emulsifier, a mill-base wetting agent and an anti-settling aid are different duties. Write which failure you see — coagulum in the reactor, grit on the mill, hard sediment, foam or a VOC limit — rather than ordering a generic paint surfactant.
How Dyna Glycols manufactures paint and coating chemicals
Ethoxylation, sulphation and EO/PO copolymerisation are run to agreed moles, cloud point, active content and electrolyte tolerance. APEO-containing alkyl phenol ethoxylates remain available for industrial systems that still specify them; fatty alcohol ethoxylates and sulphated alcohol ethoxylates are the APEO-free path for vinyl acetate, acrylate and styrene-acrylate emulsions.
Propoxylated amines for PU cross-linking, triethanolamine as a pH balancer (85% and 98%) and phenoxyethanol as a listed preservative intermediate are manufactured on the same network when the coating brief includes them.
Typical grades in this range
Typical families for coatings development are listed below. Intermediate moles and custom cloud points are available.
- Non-ionic emulsifiers (APEO): alkyl phenol ethoxylates for emulsion polymerisation, high HLB, electrolyte and high-temperature stability; also floor polish and wax emulsions
- Non-ionic emulsifiers (APEO-free): fatty alcohol ethoxylates for VA, acrylate and styrene-acrylate; improved electrolyte and shear stability
- Anionic emulsifiers (APEO-free): salts of ethoxylated fatty alcohol sulphates; ammonium salts of PEG-glycol ether sulphates for acrylate and styrene-acrylate
- Defoamers: EO/PO copolymers with low-temperature foam control and thermal stability
- Pigment dispersants: modified anionic polymeric esters; alcohol ethoxylates for inks and phthalocyanines; aromatic non-ionic and anionic amine-salt types for low-viscosity concentrates
- Specialty additives: 90% active fatty alcohol ethoxylate wetters; EO/PO copolymers as low-foam wetters and tint-strength aids
- Humectants: glycerol ethoxylates and higher-MW PEG as alternatives to ethylene glycol, propylene glycol and low-MW glycol ethers
Where paint and coating chemicals are used
Emulsion polymerisation uses defined-mole non-ionics, often with a sulphated partner, to set particle size and shear stability. Pigment concentrates use a wetting ethoxylate at mill-in and a polymeric or sulfonate dispersant to hold the grind. Waterborne architectural and industrial coatings use low-foam EO/PO wetters so organic pigments and carbon black do not flocculate.
Textile printing inks and polyester disperse dyes take selected alcohol ethoxylates. Glycerol ethoxylates keep waterborne pigment preparations from drying on the mill when VOC limits rule out conventional glycol ethers.
How to specify paint and coating chemicals
State monomer system or binder, APEO policy, required HLB or cloud point, ionic type, and whether the grade is for polymerisation, mill-in, let-down or a pigment concentrate. Share electrolyte, pH, grind temperature and foam test.
For humectants, give the VOC limit and the glycol being replaced. For PU coatings, name whether a propoxylated amine cross-linker is required versus a surfactant.
Quality, documents and supply
Lots are released against appearance, active content, pH, cloud point or moles, and the certificate tests on the TDS. SDS and COA follow verification. Stability must be confirmed in the customer latex or mill base; a bottle foam test is not a polymerisation trial.
Store above pour point. Protect high-mole pastes from moisture. Follow the SDS for sulphated anionics and for concentrated wetters.
Practical notes on paint and coating chemicals
APEO and APEO-free emulsifiers are not assumed drop-in copies. Particle size, coagulum and freeze-thaw can move when the hydrophobe changes. Run a paired polymerisation or a paired mill.
Defoamers that are EO/PO copolymers can also wet. Dose and addition point (grind vs let-down) change cratering. Ask for the low-foam wetting grade when foam and flocculation appear together.
Anionic polymerisation surfactants for styrene and acrylate need the salt form (sodium vs ammonium) stated, because pH and volatile amine on drying differ.
Carbon black and organic pigment concentrates often need an aromatic-containing dispersant. A fatty alcohol ethoxylate alone may wet and then allow hard settle.

English is the source language for coating claims. Do not treat a machine translation of HLB, moles or APEO status as the specification.
Ordering and evaluating paint and coating chemicals
Dyna Glycols supports paint and coating chemicals with laboratory samples, current SDS, TDS and COA from the Kandla SEZ manufacturing network. Tell us the intended application, the substrate, the required moles or molecular weight, and any limits on colour, odour, cloud point, hydroxyl value, pH or residual feedstock. A matching catalogue grade of paint and coating chemicals in the Paints and Coating Chemicals family can then be confirmed, or a custom batch can be planned on the ethoxylation, esterification or related plant.
When you evaluate paint and coating chemicals, send the competitor grade if one exists, the bath or emulsion conditions, and the tests your receiving laboratory will run. Pack options for paint and coating chemicals typically include drums, IBCs and bulk where the viscosity and melting point of the selected grade allow safe handling from the Paints and Coating Chemicals manufacturing line.
A first order of paint and coating chemicals is easier when the purchase specification lists identity tests, not only a local trade name. Hydroxyl value, saponification value, acid value, cloud point, pH, water, colour and appearance are the numbers the Kandla QA laboratory can lock. If your QC uses a different solvent or a different cloud-point electrolyte for paint and coating chemicals, write that method on the order so the COA speaks the same language.
Custom lots of paint and coating chemicals are quoted after the hydrophobe or acid/alcohol pair, the target analytical window, the annual volume and the pack. Pilot batches are available when a catalogue point in the Paints and Coating Chemicals range is close but not exact. Once a trial lot is approved, that TDS should be frozen so the tenth delivery of paint and coating chemicals matches the first approved drum.
Storage of paint and coating chemicals should follow the SDS: keep containers closed, protect hygroscopic grades from moisture, and warm high-melt or high-mole grades until uniform before sampling. FIFO rotation protects colour and odour. If a drum of paint and coating chemicals has frozen or separated in transit, homogenise it before charging a batch; do not decant only the liquid layer.
