Dyna Glycols manufactures surfactants and process aids for pulp and paper: EO/PO pretreat and defoamers, de-inking detergents, sizing companions, dyeing aids, bleaching aids, sheet-making lubricants and retention aids, plus carbamate slimicides and felt-cleaning blends. Grades are specified by process step, not by a mill nickname. A de-inking detergent, a defoamer and a slimicide are different duties.
What paper chemicals are
Dyna Glycols manufactures surfactants and process aids for pulp and paper: EO/PO pretreat and defoamers, de-inking detergents, sizing companions, dyeing aids, bleaching aids, sheet-making lubricants and retention aids, plus carbamate slimicides and felt-cleaning blends. Grades are specified by process step, not by a mill nickname.
A de-inking detergent, a defoamer and a slimicide are different duties. Write the machine (stock prep, de-ink, size press, dye, bleach, sheet, felt) and whether APEO or silicone is allowed.
How Dyna Glycols manufactures paper chemicals
EO/PO copolymers, fatty acid ethoxylate derivatives, fatty alcohol ethoxylates, quaternaries, polyethylene derivatives, wax sizes and carbamates are produced on the same network used for industrial non-ionics and esters, then finished for mill floats. Alkyl-capped EO/PO defoamers are offered as mineral-oil-free and silicone-free knockdown.
Custom blends of non-ionic surfactants and amine derivatives are quoted as felt (roller) cleaners after the soil and machine type.
Typical grades in this range
Start from the mill step. Typical catalogue families are listed below.
- Pretreat: EO/PO copolymers (anti-foam); non-silicone defoamers; quaternized stearamide for pulp strength; alkyl-capped EO/PO defoamers (mineral-oil and silicone free)
- De-inking: aliphatic acid ethoxylate derivatives (with and without flotation); aliphatic acid detergents with froth; solvent-containing grades for stubborn ink; APEO-free EO/PO de-ink polymers
- Sizing: modified rosin; polyethylene-derivative for kraft; synthetic wax for lustre
- Dyeing aids: quaternary for blotting and unsized acid dyeing; fatty alcohol ethoxylates for pastel levelling
- Bleaching: non-ionic brightness aids; non-silicate peroxide stabilisers
- Sheet making: fatty acid derivatives to reduce cylinder tack; nitrogenous polymer retention aids
- Special: carbamate antimicrobials for slime-forming bacteria, algae and fungi; non-ionic plus amine felt-cleaning detergents
Where paper chemicals are used
De-ink plants without flotation use ethoxylated aliphatic acid derivatives for brightness. Plants with flotation use frothing detergents so ink particles leave with the foam. Stubborn ink may need a solvent-containing companion — confirm mill VOC and safety rules first.
Size press and kraft use rosin, PE-derivative or wax companions as listed. Dyeing of tissue and unsized paper uses a quaternary that should not kill absorbency. Peroxide bleach uses a non-silicate stabiliser so residual peroxide stays in the bath.
How to specify paper chemicals
Name the step, furnish (virgin, OCC, mixed waste), APEO and silicone policy, foam test, and brightness or sizing target. For de-inking say whether flotation is present. For slimicides name sodium vs potassium carbamate and % active.
If replacing a competitor de-inker or defoamer, attach ionic type, cloud point or active and the mill pH.
Quality, documents and supply
Lots are released against the tests on the TDS. SDS and COA follow verification. Brightness, foam and sizing must be checked on the customer furnish.
Store liquids above pour point. Follow the SDS for carbamates and solvent-containing de-inkers. Protect from frost where water is the solvent.
Practical notes on paper chemicals
Silicone vs non-silicone defoamers change spots on the sheet. If silicone is banned, order the alkyl-capped EO/PO or non-silicone type, not a mill-oil defoamer from another supplier mixed in by habit.
Related pages: EO/PO block copolymers, fatty acid ethoxylates, fatty alcohol ethoxylates, sugar chemicals (carbamates). Sample defoamer and de-inker separately.
Quaternized stearamide is a strength aid, not a defoamer. Retention polymer is not a size. Order by duty.
Carbamate slimicides are mill-water biocides. Confirm the mill still permits that chemistry and the residual limits on the sheet.
Felt cleaners are custom blends. Send felt type, temperature and soil (pitch, stickies, coating) rather than a warehouse nickname.
English is the source language for APEO, silicone and biocide claims.
Ordering and evaluating paper chemicals
Dyna Glycols supports paper chemicals with laboratory samples, current SDS, TDS and COA from the Kandla SEZ manufacturing network. Tell us the intended application, the substrate, the required moles or molecular weight, and any limits on colour, odour, cloud point, hydroxyl value, pH or residual feedstock. A matching catalogue grade of paper chemicals in the Paper Chemicals family can then be confirmed, or a custom batch can be planned on the ethoxylation, esterification or related plant.
When you evaluate paper chemicals, send the competitor grade if one exists, the bath or emulsion conditions, and the tests your receiving laboratory will run. Pack options for paper chemicals typically include drums, IBCs and bulk where the viscosity and melting point of the selected grade allow safe handling from the Paper Chemicals manufacturing line.
A first order of paper chemicals is easier when the purchase specification lists identity tests, not only a local trade name. Hydroxyl value, saponification value, acid value, cloud point, pH, water, colour and appearance are the numbers the Kandla QA laboratory can lock. If your QC uses a different solvent or a different cloud-point electrolyte for paper chemicals, write that method on the order so the COA speaks the same language.
Custom lots of paper chemicals are quoted after the hydrophobe or acid/alcohol pair, the target analytical window, the annual volume and the pack. Pilot batches are available when a catalogue point in the Paper Chemicals range is close but not exact. Once a trial lot is approved, that TDS should be frozen so the tenth delivery of paper chemicals matches the first approved drum.
Storage of paper chemicals should follow the SDS: keep containers closed, protect hygroscopic grades from moisture, and warm high-melt or high-mole grades until uniform before sampling. FIFO rotation protects colour and odour. If a drum of paper chemicals has frozen or separated in transit, homogenise it before charging a batch; do not decant only the liquid layer.
Application advice for paper chemicals is given against the process you describe, not as a universal recipe. Share machine type, temperature, pH, electrolytes, fibre or hide type, and any ban on APEO, formaldehyde or food-contact lists. Dyna Glycols can then sample paper chemicals alone or as a pair with a sister grade from the same Paper Chemicals family so compatibility is checked in one evaluation.
Documentation for paper chemicals is issued after a short verification of the company and the exact grade name. SDS covers handling; TDS covers typical properties; COA covers the shipping lot. If a customer audit needs extra tests on paper chemicals (for example residual feedstock, peroxide, formaldehyde or a pharmacopoeia-style identity), list those tests at the enquiry stage so they are built into release rather than added after dispatch.
