Name the circuit before the chemistry
Paper Chemicals cover pretreatment defoamers, de-inking, sizing, dyeing aids, bleaching aids, sheet-making lubricants and retention, slime-control carbamates, and felt-cleaning detergents. Those are different interfaces. A flotation de-inker needs controlled froth to lift ink; a wash de-inker without flotation needs detergency without a foam head that starves the pump. Share pH, temperature, whether the process is flotation or wash, and any APEO ban.
Historical de-inking often used alkyl phenol ethoxylates. Many mills now specify alcohol ethoxylates or aliphatic-acid ethoxylate derivatives. Dyna Glycols supplies both and will not swap families unless you ask.
Pretreatment, de-inking and sizing
Pretreatment uses EO/PO copolymers as anti-foams, non-silicone defoamers, quaternized stearamide for pulp strengthening, and alkyl-capped EO/PO copolymers as mineral-oil- and silicone-free defoamers. EO/PO Block Co-Polymers are specified by molecular weight, EO content and whether the grade is reverse-block — not by another manufacturer’s foam-code.
De-inking grades split: aliphatic acid ethoxylate derivatives for mills without flotation (brilliant paper), aliphatic acid derivatives with strong detergency and froth for flotation, solvent-containing types for stubborn inks on waste paper, and APEO-free EO/PO polymers. Sizing then splits again: modified rosin for high-level sizing, polyethylene-derivative types for kraft, and synthetic wax for lustre. A size is not a de-inker. A wax emulsion will not replace rosin sizing.
Bleach, sheet making, slime and felt
Dyeing aids include quaternary products for blotting tissue and unsized paper with acid dyes (without killing absorbency) and fatty alcohol ethoxylates as levellers and solubilisers in pastel shades. Bleaching aids include non-ionic brightness helpers and non-silicate peroxide stabilisers that hold peroxide in the bath. Sheet-making uses fatty-acid derivatives to cut cylinder tack and give a softer sheet, plus nitrogenous polymers as retention aids.
Carbamate products control slime-forming bacteria, algae and fungi in pulp and paper systems — that is the same carbamation chemistry used in sugar, specified as a mill biocide, not as a felt detergent. Felt and roller cleaning uses custom blends of non-ionic surfactants and amine derivatives. Do not dose a slime biocide as a felt wash, or a felt detergent as a slime control.
How to specify
Name the step (defoam, de-ink, size, bleach, retain, slime, felt), flotation versus wash, pH, temperature, APEO and silicone limits, and the current chemistry if any. Dyna Glycols will sample an EO/PO defoamer, an alcohol or acid-ethoxylate de-inker, a size, or a carbamate slime-control grade against that circuit.
Specification checklist
Put the application, the substrate, temperature, pH and any APEO or formaldehyde limit on the first enquiry. INCI or chemical names, cloud point, hydroxyl value, saponification value and colour are the numbers Dyna Glycols can lock on a TDS for this Paper topic. A warehouse nickname is not a specification.
Samples and documents
Request a laboratory sample of the related Paper grade together with the current SDS and TDS. The certificate of analysis is issued for the shipping lot after manufacture at Kandla SEZ. Once the trial is approved, freeze the identity tests so later drums of this chemistry match the article you evaluated.
