Circuit first, bottle second
Boiler water and cooling-tower water are different programmes even when both are called “water-treatment chemicals”. Blowdown, pressure, metallurgy and biocide rules differ. The Water Treatment Chemicals industry page is the routing map. The practical grades are scale preventives, sequestering tools, film-forming amine or imidazoline corrosion inhibitors, phosphate-ester hydrotropes and carbamate biocides already used in sugar, paper, oilfield and metal industries — not a branded finished boiler compound unless a named blend is agreed.
Ordering “cooling-tower surfactant” without the duty (scale, corrosion, algae, foam) is how a fatty alcohol wetter is offered into a biocide brief.
Boiler versus cooling programme checklist
Boiler briefs should state pressure or temperature band, make-up hardness, condensate return, metallurgy and whether the need is scale, corrosion or both. Cooling briefs should state tower versus once-through, recirculation, metallurgy, algae history and local biocide rules. Dissolved oxygen and acid gases belong on the corrosion line; slime belongs on the biocide line; foam from air entrainment belongs on the EO/PO or defoamer line.
Dyna Glycols will not invent a full proprietary treatment programme from a single surfactant enquiry. Name each duty separately when more than one failure exists.
Scale and corrosion in hot systems
Hardness control uses sequestering and scale-preventive chemistry — imidazoline salts on Refinery & Oilfield Chemicals when formulated for brine, and related demineralising logic from industrial water briefs. Film-forming tallow amine ethoxylates and imidazolines on Metal and Electroplating Chemicals cover corrosion inhibition in industrial fluids. Phosphate Esters help keep alkaline cleaner builders dissolved; they are not a full boiler programme by themselves.
Share pressure or temperature band, make-up hardness, and whether copper alloys are present. Dissolved oxygen and acid gases belong on the corrosion brief.
Slime, algae and foam
Carbamate biocides used in Sugar Chemicals and Paper Chemicals (SDMDC, KDMDC, nabam-type) control bacteria, fungi and algae in process water. Confirm SDS use before dosing into a different cooling system. Algae in a tower is a biocide duty; foam from air entrainment is a low-foam EO/PO or defoamer duty. Do not treat one bottle as both without a written programme.
Legionella and local biocide regulations are the customer’s compliance responsibility. Dyna Glycols supplies the named chemistry with SDS/TDS/COA.
How to specify boiler or cooling chemicals
Name boiler versus cooling, duty (scale, corrosion, slime/algae, foam), metallurgy, temperature, hardness and whether the product must be oil-soluble or water-soluble. Start from Water Treatment Chemicals when the circuit is unclear; Dyna Glycols will map that onto an imidazoline salt, sequester, carbamate, phosphate ester or film-forming amine ethoxylate.
Specification checklist
Put the application, the substrate, temperature, pH and any APEO or formaldehyde limit on the first enquiry. INCI or chemical names, cloud point, hydroxyl value, saponification value and colour are the numbers Dyna Glycols can lock on a TDS for this Water topic. A warehouse nickname is not a specification.
Samples and documents
Request a laboratory sample of the related Water grade together with the current SDS and TDS. The certificate of analysis is issued for the shipping lot after manufacture at Kandla SEZ. Once the trial is approved, freeze the identity tests so later drums of this chemistry match the article you evaluated.
