Additives inside the fluid, not a finished MW package
Dyna Glycols supplies surfactant and inhibitor intermediates used inside metalworking emulsions, neat oils and alkaline spray cleaners — not a branded finished cutting fluid. The usual tools are phosphate esters for emulsification plus corrosion inhibition, fatty amine ethoxylates as film-forming bases, sulfosuccinates for flash wetting, and EO/PO grades when foam must stay low. Ordering “a metalworking fluid” without oil phase, dilution ratio and metallurgy sends the sample to the wrong family.
Emulsion stability, tramp oil rejection, yellow-metal safety and waste-treatability are formulator responsibilities. The plant manufactures to acid number, amine value, EO moles and appearance on the TDS.
Phosphate esters and amine film-formers
Phosphate Esters made from ethoxylated alcohols or alkyl phenols emulsify and inhibit in oil-in-water metalworking fluids and alkaline cleaners. Mono versus di-ester ratio and residual acidity change both hydrotroping and alkali demand. An APEO-free brief should start from a fatty alcohol ethoxylate parent. Phosphate esters are the usual metal-shop inhibitor path; they are not a drop-in for an oilfield imidazoline on a wet gas line.
Fatty Amine Ethoxylates — especially tallow amine or diamine around 10 EO — appear on the Metal and Electroplating Chemicals page as corrosion-inhibitor bases with detergent character. Low-mole grades stay oil-soluble for neat-oil packages. Write the amine cut and EO moles, not a competitor fluid code.
Wetting, foam and dilution water
Hard dilution water and high electrolyte pull non-ionic cloud point down. Share hardness, chloride and typical sump temperature. Sulfosuccinates flash-wet at low dose in some cleaner and emulsion systems but hydrolyse outside a moderate pH window. EO/PO Block Co-Polymers knock foam down in high-pressure spray; reverse-block architecture must match the current formula if you already run one.
Say whether yellow metals, aluminium or only ferrous alloys are in contact. A ferrous film-former can stain brass if the package is not balanced.
How to specify metalworking additives
Name neat oil versus emulsion, oil phase, dilution ratio, metallurgy, temperature, pH, foam limit and whether H2S or dissolved oxygen is relevant. State APEO policy. Dyna Glycols will sample a phosphate ester, an amine ethoxylate or a low-foam alkoxylate against that metalworking window and issue SDS/TDS/COA against the named chemistry.
Specification checklist
Put the application, the substrate, temperature, pH and any APEO or formaldehyde limit on the first enquiry. INCI or chemical names, cloud point, hydroxyl value, saponification value and colour are the numbers Dyna Glycols can lock on a TDS for this Metalworking fluids topic. A warehouse nickname is not a specification.
Samples and documents
Request a laboratory sample of the related Metalworking fluids grade together with the current SDS and TDS. The certificate of analysis is issued for the shipping lot after manufacture at Kandla SEZ. Once the trial is approved, freeze the identity tests so later drums of this chemistry match the article you evaluated.
