Build the emulsifier around the oil
Agro Chemicals use non-ionic emulsifiers to keep pesticide oils dispersed and to wet leaf surfaces. Typical building blocks are Oil Ethoxylates such as castor oil 40-mole types, C16–C18 alcohol ethoxylates, alkyl phenol ethoxylates where still permitted, polysorbate 20/60/80 types, and PEG esters of lauric, oleic, stearic or palmitic acid. Matching the emulsifier feedstock to the solvent or vegetable oil in the concentrate improves freeze–thaw and bloom.
Give the oil or solvent, required HLB, whether the system is an emulsifiable concentrate or an emulsion in water, and any ban on alkyl phenol ethoxylates. Herbal or ecolabel routes may use ethoxylated neem oil or alcohol ethoxylates instead of alkyl phenols.
Solvents and other duties
Glyceryl monooleate, butyl esters and liquid polyethylene glycols appear as agro solvents and coupling agents. Carbamate biocides are a separate line for preservation, not an emulsifier. Tank-mix adjuvants that must wet waxy leaves sometimes use fatty amine ethoxylates for substantivity; say if that is the intent so an alcohol ethoxylate is not offered by mistake.
