The reactor is not a mill base

Adhesive Chemicals in this catalogue are mainly emulsion-polymerisation surfactants and the same wetting, dispersing and defoam package used in related coatings. A polymerisation stabiliser keeps a newly formed latex from coagulating. A pigment dispersant holds a grind. A wetter knocks down surface tension at let-down. Ordering “an adhesive surfactant” without the monomer and the failure mode (coagulum, grit, foam, poor peel) sends the wrong family.

Alkyl phenol ethoxylates remain in some locked recipes. Fatty alcohol ethoxylates and alcohol ether sulphates are the APEO-free path. State vinyl acetate, acrylate, styrene-acrylate or other monomer systems, particle-size target, electrolyte and shear.

Anionic and non-ionic polymerisation surfactants

The adhesive list includes alkyl ether sulphates, ethoxylated alkyl phenols (non-ionic), sulfonated ethoxylated alkyl phenols (anionic), phosphated ethoxylated alkyl phenols (anionic), and OPS-25 type octyl phenol sulphate grades at about 35–45% active. Those parent ethoxylates are made on the alkoxylation plant, then sulphated or phosphated. Residual moisture and mole distribution have to sit inside that second-process window — tell the development team at sample stage if the grade will be converted.

Non-ionic emulsifiers include ethoxylated alkyl phenols, EO/PO low-foam wetters, eco-labelled low-foam emulsifiers for coatings, EO/PO foam suppressants, non-silicone defoamers and alkyl-capped EO/PO anti-foams. A defoamer that kills the latex is worse than foam. Share whether foam is in the reactor, at vacuum strip, or at coating.

Dispersing, sequestering and PU cross-link

Dispersing and anti-settling grades include vegetable-oil anti-settling agents, polycarboxylic anti-settling types, fatty alcohol and alkyl phenol ethoxylates as emulsifier-dispersants, acrylic copolymer sequester-dispersants, acrylic homopolymer dispersants, naphthalene sulfonate dispersant-levellers, and EO/PO dispersants for paints and coatings. Vegetable-oil anti-settling is not a wetter; raising wetter dose to fix settling usually adds foam.

Organic neutralizing agents are triethanolamine at 85% and 98%. Propoxylated amine cross-linkers (metal-complexing) are listed for PU coatings — a different reactor from acrylic latex. Do not specify a polymerisation ethoxylate as a PU cross-linker, or TEA as the primary emulsifier.

How to specify

Name monomer system, solids, particle-size target, APEO policy, foam location and the failure you see. Give the current surfactant if the recipe is locked (including whether it is a sulphate, phosphate or non-ionic ethoxylate). Dyna Glycols will sample against that polymerisation window rather than a generic detergent ethoxylate.

Specification checklist

Put the application, the substrate, temperature, pH and any APEO or formaldehyde limit on the first enquiry. INCI or chemical names, cloud point, hydroxyl value, saponification value and colour are the numbers Dyna Glycols can lock on a TDS for this Adhesives topic. A warehouse nickname is not a specification.

Samples and documents

Request a laboratory sample of the related Adhesives grade together with the current SDS and TDS. The certificate of analysis is issued for the shipping lot after manufacture at Kandla SEZ. Once the trial is approved, freeze the identity tests so later drums of this chemistry match the article you evaluated.
