No generic “water-treatment surfactant”
About Dyna Glycols lists water treatment among the industries served. There is no separate water-treatment family page in the chemistry catalogue. The practical grades are the same molecules already specified as scale preventives, sequestering and demineralising agents, carbamate biocides, phosphate-ester hydrotropes and film-forming amine or imidazoline corrosion inhibitors. Ordering “a water-treatment surfactant” without the ion, the organism or the metal is how a fatty alcohol wetter ends up in a cooling-water brief.
Write the circuit (cooling, boiler, process water, mill water, produced water), the duty (scale, corrosion, slime, wetting, foam) and the metallurgy. Those four facts pick the family.
Scale, sequestering and hydrotroping
Amido imidazolines on the Refinery & Oilfield Chemicals and Metal and Electroplating Chemicals pages can be salted to water-soluble products used as scale preventives as well as corrosion preventives. Textile-style demineralisers with iron chelation and dye-bath sequestering are a different tool: they bind Ca, Mg and Fe in bleach and dye, not on a heat exchanger. Phosphate Esters hydrotrope builders in alkaline cleaners so silicate and carbonate stay dissolved — builder compatibility, not a cooling-tower programme.
Share the ion (Ca, Mg, Fe), pH, temperature and whether H2S or CO2 is present. An oil-soluble tallow amine 2-mole ethoxylate is a film-former, not a cooling-water sequester.
Slime, corrosion and foam
Carbamate biocides in Sugar Chemicals and Paper Chemicals (SDMDC, KDMDC, nabam-type) control bacteria, fungi and algae in process water. They are mill and sugar-station articles; confirm the SDS use before dosing into a different water system. Film-forming tallow amine or diamine 10-mole ethoxylates and imidazolines cover corrosion inhibition in oilfield and industrial fluids. Low-foam EO/PO grades knock foam down where air is entrained; they do not replace a biocide or a CI.
Hard-water detergency in industrial wash is still a surfactant brief: non-ionic ethoxylates tolerate electrolytes that precipitate soaps. That is cleaning, not water treatment. Keep the two RFQs separate.
How to specify
Name the circuit, duty, ion or organism, pH, temperature, metallurgy and whether the product must be oil-soluble or water-soluble. Dyna Glycols will map that onto an imidazoline salt, a sequester, a carbamate, a phosphate ester or a film-forming amine ethoxylate, and issue SDS/TDS/COA against that named chemistry.
Specification checklist
Put the application, the substrate, temperature, pH and any APEO or formaldehyde limit on the first enquiry. INCI or chemical names, cloud point, hydroxyl value, saponification value and colour are the numbers Dyna Glycols can lock on a TDS for this Water topic. A warehouse nickname is not a specification.
Samples and documents
Request a laboratory sample of the related Water grade together with the current SDS and TDS. The certificate of analysis is issued for the shipping lot after manufacture at Kandla SEZ. Once the trial is approved, freeze the identity tests so later drums of this chemistry match the article you evaluated.
