Textile mills rarely buy a surfactant for its chemistry name. They buy a result at a process step: rapid wetting on cotton, level dyeing on polyester, pigment printing without kerosene, or a clean soaping after reactive dyes. Dyna Glycols manufactures auxiliaries for cotton knit and woven, denim and garments, polyester, wool, silk, nylon and worsted, plus printing chemicals and silicone softeners. A dedicated textile application laboratory checks wetting, foam, wash-off and handle.
Process first
Pre-treatment, dyeing, printing and finishing use different HLB windows and foam profiles. A penetrating agent that works in a continuous range may be too fast, or too foaming, in a winch. Sharing liquor ratio, temperature and fibre blend with the sample request is more useful than sending a long list of catalogue codes. APEO-free fatty alcohol ethoxylates are the usual substitutes where historical nonyl phenol 9.5-mole wetters are restricted.
Printing and washing-off
Printing thickeners, binders, formaldehyde-free paste emulsifiers and washing-off agents for nylon, wool and silk are part of the textile range. Reduction-clearing and stain-removal grades sit next to them. Matching SDS and TDS to the exact grade keeps EHS and the dyehouse on the same document set. Pigment print conversion from kerosene emulsion should dose a substitute thickener by dry content, not by equal wet weight.
Cotton is not polyester
Reactive dyeing on cotton needs residual peroxide and residual alkali under control, then a non-foaming soaper and often a non-formaldehyde dye-fixer. Disperse dyeing on polyester needs levelling, oligomer control, buffers and a reduction clear — a cotton soaper will not do that job. Name fibre, blend, machine (jet, jigger, continuous, cheese, garment) and dye class on the first enquiry.
Finish and handle
Cationic flakes, amino-silicone micro-emulsions and polyethylene or wax emulsions restore handle after bleach, enzyme or stone. Micro-silicones penetrate; macro-silicones sit on the surface. Whites need non-yellowing grades trialled on the optical brightener. Overdose of silicone can hurt wet crock and sewability; say if needle cutting is already a mill complaint.
