Glyceryl and glycol esters
Glyceryl Esters such as glyceryl stearate, oleate and cocoate are co-emulsifiers and structure builders in creams. Monoester content drives emulsifying power; a distilled high-mono grade is not interchangeable with a mixed mono/di of the same melting point. Self-emulsifying grades include a hydrophilic partner — say whether that partner may be a soap or an ethoxylate.
Glycol Esters of ethylene or propylene glycol are pearlising waxes and light emollients. Ethylene glycol distearate types pearl in wash products. Pearl quality depends on the rest of the surfactant base, so trial in the actual shampoo, not in water.
PEG esters and fatty acid esters
Polyethylene Glycol (PEG) Esters combine a PEG backbone with a fatty acid. PEG-100 stearate types thicken oil-in-water creams, often next to glyceryl stearate. Liquid PEG 200–600 esters are emulsifiers and solubilisers. Hydroxyl value distinguishes monoester-rich from diester-rich cuts.
Fatty Acid Esters such as isopropyl, butyl, 2-ethylhexyl or cetyl esters of oleic, stearic, palmitic or lauric acid are emollients, lubricant fluids and process solvents. They are not primary detergents. Pour point, acid value and iodine value (for unsaturated cuts) belong on the purchase specification.
Alkyl benzoates
Alkyl Benzoates — typically C12–C15 alkyl benzoate types — are light spreading esters used to dissolve organic UV filters and to give a dry skin feel. They are oil-phase ingredients. Pair them with a separate emulsifier from the ethoxylate or polyglyceryl families if the formula is an emulsion. Tight acid value and low odour matter in facial and sun care.
Specification checklist
Put the application, the substrate, temperature, pH and any APEO or formaldehyde limit on the first enquiry. Samples and documents
Request a laboratory sample of the related Esters grade together with the current SDS and TDS. The certificate of analysis is issued for the shipping lot after manufacture at Kandla SEZ. Once the trial is approved, freeze the identity tests so later drums of this chemistry match the article you evaluated.
