What other ethoxylates are

Other ethoxylates covers hydrophobes that are not the main fatty alcohol, alkyl phenol, fatty acid, fatty amine or triglyceride families. Typical examples are ethoxylated lauryl amine oxide intermediates, specialised synthetic alcohols, mixed cuts, and customer-named molecules that still undergo ethoxylation on the same plant. Dyna Glycols treats this group as made-to-order alkoxylation rather than a single catalogue surfactant.

Customers arrive here when a specification names a hydrophobe that does not sit in the standard menus, or when they need a small-volume ethoxylate alongside a larger fatty alcohol programme. The manufacturing capability is the same stainless-steel ethoxylation, distillation and 24/7 QA used for the named families.

How Dyna Glycols manufactures other ethoxylates

A sample or a written hydrophobe identity, target EO moles, and the required tests are enough to quote a trial batch. Pilot alkoxylation is available before the main reactor is used. Residual feedstock, colour, water, pH and hydroxyl or amine value are set on the purchase specification.

If the hydrophobe is already used on site in another family, the laboratory will usually recommend moving the grade into that family page for easier reordering. This “others” list is for genuine specials.

Where other ethoxylates are used

Applications follow the hydrophobe: wetting, emulsifying, dispersing, antistatic or intermediate for sulphation. Because these grades are specials, the customer application test is the real specification; Dyna Glycols supplies the ethoxylate to the agreed analytical window.

Typical outlets are niche detergents, textile auxiliaries, agro specialities, oilfield chemicals and polymerisation surfactants that cannot use a standard TDA or NP mole.

If a special later becomes a repeating order, it can be given a Dyna grade name and moved onto a standing TDS so subsequent lots match the first approved batch.

How to specify other ethoxylates

Provide the hydrophobe CAS or trade identity, EO moles, and every test that the receiving QC laboratory will run. Include a retained sample of a competitor lot if the goal is a match.

State packaging, annual volume and whether a confidential hydrophobe must be handled under a secrecy agreement. Custom ethoxylation is quoted after that information is complete.

Quality, documents and supply

Each special ethoxylate is released only against the tests written for that grade. SDS is issued for the named chemistry. COA follows the agreed list, not a generic alcohol-ethoxylate template.

Store and handle according to the SDS for that hydrophobe class. Warm, mix and sample as for other ethoxylates of similar viscosity.

Practical notes on other ethoxylates

Before requesting an “other” ethoxylate, check the fatty alcohol, amine, acid, oil and alkyl phenol pages. Many briefs that arrive as specials are standard TDA, lauryl or castor moles under a local trade name.

Mole distribution, residual catalyst and water can be tightened for grades that will be sulphated or used in polymerisation. Raise those needs at the trial-batch stage.

Colour and odour of special hydrophobes are inherited from the feedstock. Pale specifications may need a distilled or hydrogenated starting material.

Lead time for a first custom batch is longer than for a catalogue NP-9 or LA-7. Plan sample, pilot and plant lots as separate steps.

Dyna Glycols will not reverse-engineer a patented molecule or a customer’s secret blend beyond what is disclosed. The ethoxylation is performed on the hydrophobe the customer supplies or names.

Repeating specials benefit from a locked TDS: appearance, moles, hydroxyl or amine value, pH, water and colour. That document is what keeps the tenth lot the same as the first approved lot of the other ethoxylate.

Ordering and evaluating other ethoxylates

Dyna Glycols supports other ethoxylates with laboratory samples, current SDS, TDS and COA from the Kandla SEZ manufacturing network. Tell us the intended application, the substrate, the required moles or molecular weight, and any limits on colour, odour, cloud point, hydroxyl value, pH or residual feedstock. A matching catalogue grade of other ethoxylates in the Ethoxylates family can then be confirmed, or a custom batch can be planned on the ethoxylation, esterification or related plant.

When you evaluate other ethoxylates, send the competitor grade if one exists, the bath or emulsion conditions, and the tests your receiving laboratory will run. Pack options for other ethoxylates typically include drums, IBCs and bulk where the viscosity and melting point of the selected grade allow safe handling from the Ethoxylates manufacturing line.

A first order of other ethoxylates is easier when the purchase specification lists identity tests, not only a local trade name. Hydroxyl value, saponification value, acid value, cloud point, pH, water, colour and appearance are the numbers the Kandla QA laboratory can lock. If your QC uses a different solvent or a different cloud-point electrolyte for other ethoxylates, write that method on the order so the COA speaks the same language.

Custom lots of other ethoxylates are quoted after the hydrophobe or acid/alcohol pair, the target analytical window, the annual volume and the pack. Pilot batches are available when a catalogue point in the Ethoxylates range is close but not exact. Once a trial lot is approved, that TDS should be frozen so the tenth delivery of other ethoxylates matches the first approved drum.

Storage of other ethoxylates should follow the SDS: keep containers closed, protect hygroscopic grades from moisture, and warm high-melt or high-mole grades until uniform before sampling. FIFO rotation protects colour and odour. If a drum of other ethoxylates has frozen or separated in transit, homogenise it before charging a batch; do not decant only the liquid layer.

Application advice for other ethoxylates is given against the process you describe, not as a universal recipe. Share machine type, temperature, pH, electrolytes, fibre or hide type, and any ban on APEO, formaldehyde or food-contact lists.
