Scale is a mineral problem, not a foam problem
A scale-preventing agent keeps calcium, magnesium, iron or other hardness from depositing as carbonate, sulphate or silicate scale. A sequestering or demineralising agent binds those ions in solution so they do not dull a bleach, crash a dye or seed a heat-exchanger. In chemical development those are related duties, but they are not wetting, and they are not corrosion inhibition even when the same imidazoline family can be salted for both. Ordering “a water-treatment surfactant” without the ion and the process step is how a fatty alcohol ethoxylate ends up in a brief that needed a chelant.
Dyna Glycols does not treat scale control as a separate plant process. The catalogue tools are imidazoline salts on the oilfield list, demineralisers with iron chelation in Cotton Textile-Knit/Woven Processing Chemicals, de-scaling aids in Sugar Chemicals, and hydrotroping Phosphate Esters that keep builders dissolved in alkaline cleaners. Name the ion, the pH and the equipment.
Oilfield, sugar and metal systems
Amido imidazolines on the Refinery & Oilfield Chemicals and Metal and Electroplating Chemicals pages can be formulated with inorganic or organic acids to water-soluble salts used as corrosion preventives, emulsifiers, wetting agents or scale preventives. The salt, the solvent and the dose programme are part of the customer package. Send brine composition, temperature and whether H2S or CO2 is present so an oil-soluble amine ethoxylate is not offered by mistake.
Sugar evaporation, pans and molasses need de-scaling and de-colouring aids, not a textile scour. Carbamate biocides on that page control slime; they are not scale inhibitors. Share the process step (evaporation, pan, molasses) so the laboratory maps onto the right duty. Metal-working and alkaline spray washers often need phosphate-ester hydrotroping so silicate and carbonate stay in solution — that is builder compatibility, not a film-forming CI.
Textile demineralising and dye-bath sequestering
Cotton pretreatment uses a demineraliser with high Fe++ chelation so residual iron does not catalyse fibre damage in peroxide bleach or dull whites. Dye-bath conditioners combine sequestering with dispersing so hardness does not unlevel reactive dyeing. Polyester dyeing uses sequester-plus-disperse-plus-level-plus-buffer packages and hard-water-stable levellers. Residual peroxide and residual alkali remain separate problems; a sequester will not hide them.
State fibre, machine, liquor ratio, and whether the target is iron, calcium or mixed hardness. A cheese-dyeing penetrant is not a demineraliser. APEO and formaldehyde limits belong on the first enquiry.
How to specify
Name the ion (Ca, Mg, Fe, mixed), pH, temperature, water hardness, and the process (separator, evaporator, bleach, dye bath, alkaline cleaner). Say whether the product must also inhibit corrosion or only hold ions. Dyna Glycols will sample an imidazoline salt, a textile demineraliser or a phosphate-ester hydrotrope against that window rather than a generic wetter.
Specification checklist
Put the application, the substrate, temperature, pH and any APEO or formaldehyde limit on the first enquiry. INCI or chemical names, cloud point, hydroxyl value, saponification value and colour are the numbers Dyna Glycols can lock on a TDS for this Scale preventives topic. A warehouse nickname is not a specification.
Samples and documents
Request a laboratory sample of the related Scale preventives grade together with the current SDS and TDS. The certificate of analysis is issued for the shipping lot after manufacture at Kandla SEZ. Once the trial is approved, freeze the identity tests so later drums of this chemistry match the article you evaluated.
