Preservation is a kill or hold-back duty
A preservative or biocide limits bacteria, fungi or algae that spoil a hide, a paper system, a sugar mill or a formulated concentrate. In chemical development that is not wetting, not emulsifying, and not a carbamate “just in case” added to a shampoo ethoxylate. Dyna Glycols lists named biocidal duties on industry pages: VENPRESERVE for short-term preservation of fresh hides in Beam House Chemicals, carbamate products for slime-forming bacteria, algae and fungi in Paper Chemicals, and carbamate-based biocides in Sugar Chemicals. Agro carbamate biocides are a separate line from emulsifiers.
Write the organism problem (putrefaction on raw hide, slime on a paper machine, mill water in sugar), contact time, pH and whether the product will be in soak, process water or a formulated pack. A leather bactericide is not a sugar dithiocarbamate, even when both are “biocides” on an RFQ.
Leather soak preservation
Short-term preservation of fresh hides is a bactericide duty in soak, before lime. Dose on the hide-weight basis given on the product page. Compact soaking agents with self-regulating pH are a different article: they even up take-up and protect flanks, they do not replace a preservative when the hide will wait. State raw material (bovine, calf, goat, sheep) and how many hours the stock will sit.
APEO-free wetters used in the same beam house must not be assumed compatible without a trial. Ionic clashes from mixed sources show up as spots or poor soak. Sample preservation, soak and wetting as one set when the hide source changes.
Sugar and paper carbamates
Sugar-process biocides in the catalogue include sodium dimethyl dithiocarbamate, potassium dimethyl dithiocarbamate and ethylene bis-dithiocarbamate types at stated actives (often around 40%). They sit next to de-scaling and de-colouring aids; those three duties are not one drum. Share the process step so a textile scour is not offered by default.
Paper-mill carbamates are aimed at slime-forming bacteria, algae and fungi in pulp and paper systems. They are not felt-cleaning detergents. Felt-cleaning uses blends of nonionic surfactants and amine derivatives — a different sample. Phenoxyethanol appears on the coatings list as a preservative-grade solvent; it is not a mill-water biocide. Label the use so SDS and dose advice match the duty.
How to specify
Name the industry, the organism or spoil symptom, pH, temperature, contact time and whether the product goes into soak, process water or a packed formula. For carbamates, name SDMDC, KDMDC or nabam-type chemistry if the mill already uses one. Dyna Glycols issues SDS, TDS and lot COA against that named article, not against a generic “biocide” nickname.
Specification checklist
Put the application, the substrate, temperature, pH and any APEO or formaldehyde limit on the first enquiry. A warehouse nickname is not a specification.
Samples and documents
Request a laboratory sample of the related Preservatives grade together with the current SDS and TDS. The certificate of analysis is issued for the shipping lot after manufacture at Kandla SEZ. Once the trial is approved, freeze the identity tests so later drums of this chemistry match the article you evaluated.
