Dyna Glycols offers alkyl benzoates based on synthetic C12-15 alcohol and on selected natural alcohols. These esters are used in skin-care and sun-care as light emollients, pigment wetting agents and fragrance fixatives. They give a dry, silky feel without a heavy residue when the oil phase is written around them rather than around a heavier triglyceride.
Functions in a formula
Alkyl benzoate acts as an emollient, lubricant and wetting agent. Low molecular weight helps it spread on dry and oily skin. Non-comedogenic use in moisturisers, serums and sunscreens is common when the rest of the oil phase is also low-residue. It can also hold fragrance on the skin for longer than a volatile ester.
