Alkoxylation is the broader reaction
Alkoxylates include ethoxylates and products that also carry propylene oxide or other alkylene oxides. Adding propylene oxide tends to lower foam, lower cloud point in water, and increase oil solubility compared with a straight ethoxylate of similar chain length. Propoxylates are chosen when a formula must stay low-foam on a jet or in a high-pressure cleaner.
EO/PO block copolymers
EO/PO Block Co-Polymers are built by adding ethylene oxide and propylene oxide in a defined sequence to an alcohol or other starter. Performance depends on the block order and the EO percentage, not only total molecular weight. Typical duties are low-foam wetting, defoaming, emulsification in oilfield and coatings, and rinse aids. Specify molecular weight, EO content and whether the copolymer is a reverse-block type. Avoid quoting another manufacturer’s grade code; the analytical window is what Dyna Glycols will manufacture to.
Fatty amides and betaines
Amides from coconut, lauric, oleic or stearic acids with monoethanolamine or diethanolamine are foam boosters and viscosity builders in shampoos and bath products. Cocamidopropyl betaine and coco betaine types are amphoteric partners that improve mildness next to anionics. State the amide (for example coco monoethanolamide or coco diethanolamide) and any ethoxylation on the amide. Super-amide versus 1:1 diethanolamide is a real process difference and should appear on the TDS enquiry.
