ALKOXYLATES
Alkoxylates are those chemicals that are produced by means of
alkoxylation process.
Alkoxylation is a process wherein compounds such as alcohols, phenols, amines, etc. react with alkoxides to form alkoxylates. Generally, the alkoxides involved in this reaction are ethoxide, propenoxide, butaoxide, etc. Byproducts obtained from this reaction are alcohols, glycols, glycol ethers, etc. This reaction also produces a wide range of non-ionic and ionic
surfactants. Various types of alkoxylates are alcohol alkoxylates, fatty acid alkoxylates and fatty amine alkoxylates, among others and they are used as cleaning agents, emulsifying agents, detergents, stabilizers, dispersing agents and wetting agents, among others. Among the several types of alkoxylates, alcohol alkoxylates are the most commonly used ones among end use industries owing to their degradable and environment-friendly nature. Global Alkoxylates market is expected to witness a steady growth over the forecast period.
Alkoxylation is a chemical reaction that involves the addition of an epoxide to another compound. The usual manifestation of this reaction is
ethoxylation of alcohols (ROH), in which case ethylene oxide is the alkoxylating agent:
The alkoxylated products can contain in the molecule a number of moles of ethylene oxide and/or propylene oxide ranging from one to hundreds. These are used for a wide range of application such as:
Ethoxylation is a
chemical process in which ethylene oxide is reacted (in desired molar ratios) with an alcohol or acid to make
surfactants.
Ethoxylation may also involve reactions between ethylene oxide an
